Ficclet - Smallville Fanfic
Hey guys, COMPLETELY random ficcage from me. Inspired by a moment in [livejournal.com profile] astolat's fic, Better. I've never written anything in the Smallville fandom before, so hopefully it won't completely suck or be out of character. Anyway, um, I'm not sure I'm happy with it, it's got about as much subtlety as a plank 'o wood to the head, but I felt it so I wrote it and here we are. Let me know what you think.

Title: Promises

Promises
A Smallville Fanfiction

“It’s okay that you’re lying to me,”

The words were soft but hit like a knock-out punch. Clark sucked a breath in; impossible to hide it in the face of such softness. He felt the quiet of the room press close. They had just been sitting in front of the fire, Clark on the floor; Lex above him on the couch. Silent. Until those words.

Clark looked down at his clenched fists and said the only thing that he could. That he would. That wasn’t, wasn’t just lying. (He was so sick of lying to Lex.) The only thing that might not shatter the stillness.

“I want to tell you.”

It was almost imperceptible, but Clark felt the way Lex stiffened, ever so slightly. Clark looked up to see a brief trace of surprise cross Lex’s face.

He probably didn’t expect me to admit it.

“But you don’t trust me.” Lex couldn’t restrain the edge of bitterness that coloured his voice.

“...No,” Clark whispered

Something in Lex’s eyes flinched and he started to turn away.

“I can’t trust myself.” Clark finished.

Lex was startled, and turned back; Clark’s fists tightened so much that they ached, but he couldn’t look away from those searching eyes.

“I know what I am, Lex. I am a country boy, with little experience of people, and the world, outside of my country town. I’m not... I’m not smart, about some things.

“You’re not from my country world, Lex, so I don’t understand a lot of things about you. And... and my secret is so big, that I promised not to tell anyone. I promised, Lex.”

Clark wasn’t sure when it had happened, but one of Lex’s hands was clutching hard to one of Clark’s, and he had to blink, suck in breath, and just hold for a second. Because he wasn’t sure if he should say this, he wasn’t even sure what he was saying – but he was sure, that every time he lied to Lex, he was going to lose him a little more, and he just couldn’t take it any longer.

“So... even though I promised, because I am who I am, I- I can’t trust myself- when, when I-” Clark closed his eyes and tried to breathe, tried to believe he wasn’t about to ruin everything. “I can’t trust myself, when I think I can trust you. When I think I know you.” He opened his eyes, “When I think I love you.”

Oh- I think, I think I actually said it.

Oh.

The stillness of the room held for a moment, until Clark was about to draw away and go home to his farm, hide the tears in his pillows, and try to figure out how to live his life without Lex Luthor.

But then Lex smiled.

And it wasn’t his ‘I win’ smile. Or his, ‘I lost’ smile. Or any of the smiles from his collection.

It was a new smile.

“If you cannot trust yourself because you know what you are, Clark, could you trust that I, too, know myself?” Lex said.

Clark nodded, eyes still focused on the smile.

“Then believe me when I say, that I trust you. That I- I love you. And that if you promise to love me, forever, I won’t even ask you your secrets, and that I will do everything I can to protect you for the rest of my life.” Lex’s voice had lost its culture, and was filled with such raggedness that Clark had to look up into the eyes which burned with a greater passion than he had ever witnessed in another human being.

Clark smiled, and with massive joy bound himself to the second oath of his life; one which would dictate his future even more than his first.

“I promise.”

So there we are. I kinda wanna do a companion piece with Lex's POV. Worth it? Yay? Nay? (Warning: I may or may not take your yay or nay into account. :D) Thanks!

Awesome, even though its my turn with not knowing who the majority of the characters are. XD

But guess what! KRM has managed to watch all four Harry Potter movies!!! Haven't gotten the chance to read the books though~ And I'd like to say....awesomemuch. Draco looks better with his hair down, as does Harry with longer hair. Lucius looks like an evil Haldir from Lord of the Rings and Voldemort.......holy shitikins.....(Though, something about when he _finally_ appears in the fourth movie seems off to me. Like an extremely overgiddy evil teenager...)

And now I must go back and read your ficcys finally understanding a whole lot more~

(.....Why does Draco have such a tiny part in the movies so far, is it the same in the books? Does he have a more important part later? Also funny tidbit, I predicted everytime Draco and atleast something connected to Voldemort came on screen XD)
